How to Cast Tungsten Carbide Welding Rod?

Tungsten carbide welding electrodes are widely used in the field of wear-resistant cladding such as oil drilling tools, mining machinery, shield cutting tools and so on because of its ultra-high hardness (93HRA) and wear resistance.

Casting tungsten carbide electrodes, raw material preparation is the basis. Need to select high-purity tungsten carbide powder, and reasonable with iron, cobalt, nickel and other metal powders as the binder phase. Different proportion of binder phase will make the electrode performance difference, for example, increase the cobalt content can enhance the toughness and wear resistance of the electrode. The specific proportion of matching can be based on the use of the situation, if you are not quite sure, you can consult with Jinxin, we will give you a program to recommend.

Mixing link is crucial. The tungsten carbide powder and the bonding phase are fully mixed in proportion, generally using equipment such as ball mills to ensure that the composition is evenly distributed, laying the foundation for subsequent molding.

Extrusion molding process is often used in the molding stage. The evenly mixed material is put into the extruder mold, and through the control of pressure and temperature, it is extruded into the shape of a specific specification welding rod. After molding, drying treatment is required to remove the moisture in the material.

Finally, the sintering process. The dried electrode is placed in a high-temperature furnace and sintered at a high temperature of 1300 - 1500°C under the protection of inert gas, so that the tungsten carbide and the bonding phase are fully integrated to form a dense structure and improve the comprehensive performance of the electrode. After the above steps, a cast tungsten carbide welding rod with excellent performance is completed, which can be used for all kinds of hardfacing operations.
