Tungsten carbide balls are used in Brinell hardness test methods. Hardness is a measure of the ability of a product to resist deformation, indentation or scratches. Generally, the harder the material, the better the wear resistance. The cemented carbide products must have a certain degree of hardness to ensure sufficient wear resistance and service life.

The contact area S (mm2) between the quality alloy ball indenter and the sample is the value obtained by dividing the test force. The cemented carbide ball indenter is HBW. k is a constant (1/g = 1/9.80665 = 0.102).
