Method of strengthening and toughening insert

1. Whisker toughening has four kinds of toughening effects, including pull out effect, bridge toughening effect, crack deflection toughening effect and micro-crack toughening effect, which is one of the most active toughening and reinforcing mechanisms currently studied.  

 

2. Particle dispersion toughening is mainly to add the second phase particles with high elastic modulus into the ceramic matrix, and the particles prevent the shrinkage of the transverse section when the matrix material is stretched.  The "pinning" effect of the particle on the crack and the deflection effect of the crack also play a toughening role.  Particle dispersion toughening is not affected by temperature, so it can be used as a high temperature toughening mechanism.  

 

3. The phase change toughening mechanism of ceramic tool materials mainly includes stress-induced phase change toughening and micro-crack toughening.  

 

4. Collaborative toughening is the use of a variety of toughening mechanisms to toughen ceramic tool materials, its fracture toughness is much better than the single toughening mechanism of ceramic tool materials, and has a good comprehensive physical and mechanical properties, is the development direction of ceramic tool materials.
